Fides Lladoc

Fides LladocFides has been an English reading teacher for 8 years. She taught Asian and Contemporary Literature to Grade School and High School students using the Multiple Intelligences and Whole Language Approaches. When she enrolled at a Master’s program in the University of the Philippines, she realized the usefulness of the Phonics approach in teaching reading to struggling readers. She, then, integrated the benefits and gains of the many educational approaches she learned to form a balanced instruction that develop children who can and will read and write.

For the last three years, she worked as an intervention specialist to children with dyslexia in the Philippines. With several years of training using the Multisensory Approach, she taught remedial reading, spelling and writing in one-to-one, small group and classroom settings. For the last two years, Fides implemented reading and writing workshops to empower children with dyslexia who do not only know how to read and write, but enjoy reading and writing as well.

Apart from providing literacy remediation, she has conducted training workshops, primers and seminars to teachers and parents who wish to know more about learning disabilities. Her work as a Department Head also involved providing supervision, training and staff development to other remedial teachers.

Fides is also particularly keen in giving discussions on how adolescents with learning disabilities can advocate for themselves to raise awareness for the need of differentiated instructional programs and accommodation. She believes that children with dyslexia can learn successfully if given the appropriate instruction and support.

Fides is currently finishing her Master’s thesis entitled The Effects of Oral Assessment to Accuracy and Anxiety Level of Children with Dyslexia. She earned her education units and undergraduate course from the University of the Philippines.
