Dear Educators,

Lexicon Reading Center conducted a free Dyslexia and Dysgraphia screening program for schools in 2015. Although we screened hundreds of students, a number of schools missed out, due to the overwhelming response to our initiative. 40% of the children screened were found to be likely dyslexic and further action was recommended. Lexicon Reading Center has decided to again offer free screening, this time for Dyscalculia to schools on October 3-13, 2016.

I am writing to invite you to take up this opportunity for your school. My long professional experience working as a teacher, school psychologist and school administrator (Senior Education Office, New South Wales Department of Education in Australia) has made me a passionate campaigner for the provision of support for children with learning disabilities, especially children with the “hidden” disability of Specific Learning Difficulties.

2016 is the year of reading in the UAE. At the beginning of the year, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa said: “We directed to declare 2016 as the Reading Year because reading is the basic skill for a new generation of scientists, intellectuals and innovators.” In this special year in the UAE, it is very important that children with Specific Learning Difficulties are included into this “new generation of future scientists, intellectuals, and motivators.” In addition to this very special year in the UAE, October will be Dyslexia Awareness Month in the USA and Dyslexia Awareness Week (DAW) 2016 will be held from October 3-9 in the UK.

Lexicon Reading Center also contributes to support students in schools, in collaboration with school administrations, by providing individualized targeted interventions using multisensory dyslexia, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia approaches. This service targets the students who need support at the Third Wave Level in UK curriculum (or Third Tier Level US curriculum) of support need.
